Master of Science in Counseling & Master of Music Therapy Dual Degree

Blend clinical insight with the power of music

Master of Science in Counseling and Master of Music Therapy

The Music Therapy–Counseling dual degree prepares graduates to integrate clinical expertise with the transformative impact of music. Students gain expanded career opportunities, a broader understanding of mental health service delivery, and enriched clinical experiences that strengthen both disciplines. Music therapy students become eligible for licensure as clinical mental health counselors, while counseling students develop a versatile set of music-based interventions to enhance their practice. By approaching mental health from two complementary perspectives, graduates deepen their knowledge and stand out to employers—positioning this dual degree as a truly integrated, career-advancing opportunity.

The dual degree offers a streamlined path to advanced training, requiring just 75 total credits—significantly fewer than the 94 credits needed to complete each degree separately. By pursuing the combined program, students save 19 graduate credits, reducing both time and cost while maximizing their professional preparation. Carefully integrated coursework allows select classes to fulfill requirements across both programs, creating an efficient and cohesive learning experience.

For students entering without an undergraduate degree in Music Therapy, an additional 24–32 credits of equivalency coursework ensures a strong foundation for success in the program.
