A Message from the Vice President of University Advancement
The New Year is a time of hope; a time to consider all that is possible, and all of the good that may come. For me, part of that includes thinking of those who make dreams become a reality. Donors give for many reasons. Some give because they are grateful for their own experience and want to ensure others experience the same. Some give to make a significant impact in the community. Others give to celebrate and remember a loved one who has gone on to their eternal reward.
In some cases, donors give for all of those reasons. The Gauthier family has a long history of making an impact at Loyola. Nearly 18 years ago, they named the new wing of the College of Law, ensuring future generations of lawyers could receive a world-class education. They have continued their impact throughout the years, showing support in ways large and small. More recently, the Gauthier family has created an endowment that will give students real-world experience as they prepare for their future careers.
In loving memory of Michelle Gauthier, the Gauthier family and donors worked to establish the Michelle Gauthier Endowment for a Restaurant Industry Internship so that the next generation of culinary talent and entrepreneurship would have the opportunity to find fulfillment in service.
Michelle was a trained chef and a legendary entertainer, renowned for her hospitality. She established and built Mulberry & Vine, a clean-eating food restaurant that grew to six locations
in the late 2010s, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. She expanded the world of fast casual and helped create a support system of restaurateurs in New York. Among other awards, Mulberry & Vine was named a Hot Concept emerging brand by Nation's Restaurant News in 2019.
Michelle’s family has deep Loyola ties. Her father, Wendell, was a proud Loyola Law graduate, and her mother, Anne, has been a generous leader at Loyola as a volunteer, trustee, advocate, and donor. Michelle’s two sisters are both Loyola graduates.
Through the endowment, students will carry on Michelle's legacy as they build careers and create impact in the culinary world. Thank you to the Gauthier family for their incredible support and to every donor, volunteer and advocate who ensures our Ignatian tradition lives on.
Sincerely,
