Magis Moment: August 2026

 A Message from the Vice President of University Advancement 

Each year on July 31, we celebrate the Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It is a day that invites us all to reflect on his remarkable journey and a moment in his life that changed history. 

In 1521, a cannonball shattered the leg of St. Ignatius during the Battle of Pamplona. What was surely a devastating and painful setback became the catalyst for a remarkable transformation. During his long recovery, confined to bed, he encountered stories of faith that transformed his heart and helped him discover a deeper purpose. A purpose rooted in faith, service, and the belief that God could bring hope from even the greatest challenges. What first appeared to be an ending became the beginning of a life devoted to faith, education, justice, and service. Today, his cannonball moment continues to inspire us to reflect in moments of great change on the opportunities that may be ahead.

With a new academic year upon us, it is our chance to reflect on how we might make a difference and make possibilities become reality. In just a few days, we will welcome students back to campus. They will arrive eager to learn, to grow, and to discover where they can make an impact on the future. For each of them, this year holds endless potential and countless opportunities to experience their own moments of discovery. A classroom discussion may ignite a lifelong passion. A staff or faculty member may offer encouragement at just the right time. A service project may reveal a calling they never expected. These quiet, meaningful moments will shape the lives of our Wolf Pack. 

Thank you for helping to make those moments possible. Together, we will continue the work St. Ignatius began more than 500 years ago, forming students into people who will go forth to serve others, lead with courage, and bring hope into the world.
