While recognizing that terms like "Hispanic" and "Latinx" denote many heterogeneous cultures, it is important to underscore the successes, challenges, and diversity of Latinx experiences in the context of culture, diplomacy, and law in New Orleans. The speakers in this series will discuss intellectually-riveting topics, such as the history of the New Orleans Mexican Consulate, the politics promoting immigration, journeys in academia, and other pressing issues, all within the Loyola and New Orleans communities. Loyola alumna Constance Paige Young '05 is a speaker, racial justice activist, and an advocate for crime victims. She is a survivor of multiple violent crimes, including the racially motivated car attack in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017. Constance now devotes her time to building a radically loving community in the here and now. Informed and transformed by a dynamic journey, she speaks about cultivating resilience through adversity, restorative justice, and informs others on how to best support victims of crime and their loved ones.

Here, parents/caregivers will learn valuable resources on how to support their students. The panel will cover the support networks and free services available to students on Loyola’s campus. It will also discuss common scenarios students face in their first year on campus and how parents/caregivers can help their students navigate these situations. There will be a chat function enabled, which will allow questions to be answered by a Loyola professional staff member.
