Chat and Chew Research Talk with Dr. Goertzen, Professor of Music History
Dr. Goertzen will discuss how Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) engaged with music of other composers in inventive arrangements that conveyed aspects of his identity as a composer-pianist. These performances combined showmanship with interiority, and creative reimagination with fidelity to the musical test. His example may spark ideas for our own time.
Light refreshments will be served, and students, faculty, and staff are welcome to attend the talk.
