Bio

Jamison Ross is more than a GRAMMY-winning R&B/Soul artist—he’s a storyteller, a groove architect, and a torchbearer of timeless soul. With a voice as smooth as velvet and a touch on the drums that speaks straight to the heart, Jamison bridges the past and the future, blending the rich traditions of R&B, Gospel, and Blues with a fresh, contemporary edge. His music channels the spirit of legends like Marvin Gaye, Rance Allen, and Al Green while crafting a sound that is uniquely and unmistakably his own.

Born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, Jamison’s musical journey started at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts before he refined his craft at Florida State University and the University of New Orleans, earning a Master of Music. In 2012, he shook the jazz world to its core, winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk (now Herbie Hancock) International Jazz Competition for Jazz Drum Set. That defining moment catapulted him into the spotlight, paving the way for his breathtaking debut album, Jamison (2015), which earned him his first GRAMMY nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

But Jamison isn’t just a singing drummer—he’s a rhythmic powerhouse, a masterful songwriter, an educator, and a producer with an undeniable groove. In 2016, he joined the world-renowned, multi-award-winning supergroup Snarky Puppy, lending his deep-pocketed rhythms to acclaimed albums like Live in Rio, Family Dinner Volume 2, Immigrance, and the GRAMMY-winning Empire Central.

In 2019, he co-founded Affective Music with business partner David S. Hargrett, a label dedicated to shaping the sound of Soul for a new generation. That same year, he produced Mykal Kilgore’s stunning debut single, Let Me Go, which earned him his second GRAMMY nomination.

Now, Jamison is making his boldest statement yet. From mentoring the next wave of artists at Loyola University to winning his latest GRAMMY for producing So Glad To Know You—a soul-stirring opus by Avery*Sunshine that took home Best Progressive R&B Album—he is proving that Soul is not just alive, but thriving and evolving. His gift for blending silky vocal melodies with rich, organic instrumentation creates an experience that transcends time, taking listeners on a journey of raw emotion, depth, and undeniable groove.

Jamison Ross isn’t just making music—he’s crafting a legacy, defining the sound of Soul for this generation. One note, one song, one encounter at a time, and the world is listening.
