Bio

Dr. Betsy Uschkrat is the winner of several operatic competitions including Mobile Opera’s Competition (2016), Shreveport Opera’s Singer of the Year (2009), Birmingham Opera’s Competition (2009) and the Fielder Grant of Austin (2008). A two-time Regional Finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, while attending Indiana University, she also competed in the Miss America Pageant as Miss Indiana 2006.
 Her roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflüte, Sharon in Masterclass, Julie Jordan in Carousel, Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. Past operatic title roles include Manon, Susannah, and Romeo et Juliette.  Recent symphonic works include Mendelsson’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, and Poulenc’s Gloria.  The New Orleans Times-Picayune describes her as a “vocal powerhouse” and she has enjoyed performances with The Kennedy Center in Washington D. C., New Orleans Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Shreveport Opera, Opera Idaho, Pensacola Opera, Opéra Louisiane in Baton Rouge, Mississippi Opera and Louisiana Opera in Monroe. 
Dr. Uschkrat teaches at Loyola University in both the Classical Voice and Musical Theatre Departments. Her students have gone on to continue in the arts professionally, as well as become music educators and music therapists across the country.
