Where did you go to college? Loyola University New Orleans '06 (B.A., Drama and Communications)
What were you involved in while you were in college? Residential Life, Greek Life, Working in the Theatre department costume shop, box office, business office and of course, acting in plays!
Best piece of college advice: If you have the choice of studying all night for an exam or sleeping, get some sleep. You will likely remember more than you thought than if you stayed up all night studying. And go easy on the caffeine intake.
Favorite restaurant in New Orleans: I always send people to Brigtsen's. It's the cutest little place with amazing food.
Favorite weekend activity in New Orleans: On one of the less crowded (and cooler) weekends, I like to stroll along Royal Street or Magazine Street snacking, exploring and people-watching. It's easy to feel like a tourist in your own city because there is always something happening here.
Favorite New Orleans tradition? Red Beans and Rice on Mondays. And you had to have it with a dash of Crystal Hot Sauce. This was constantly on the menu at my house when I was growing up - and still is!
Favorite New Orleans food? Depends on my mood! Does a Bloody Mary count as food? Haha. I love a good crawfish or shrimp etouffee, , shrimp-n-grits, shrimp po-boy, beignets, cafe au lait, cochon de lait, king cake, the list goes on and on...
As Louis Armstrong famously asked, "Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans?" I definitely do! I grew up here and when I was a few years out of college, I moved away for a decade to Houston, TX. I loved there too, but there really is no place like home. This place is so culturally unique. I love that we celebrate life, food, music, history and tradition year round.
Where is the best place to go for a snowball and what flavor do you get? Hansen's Sno-bliz! There are so many great flavors that it's hard to choose. I tried Passionfruit which was so fresh and delicious (perfect for summer!) and then a friend had a really unique one (Cardamom and Coconut Milk) which was SO surprisingly tasty. And you should definitely try one of them with condensed milk on the top.
What New Orleans street do you constantly misspell? You mean other than Tchoupitoulas? Probably Ponchartrain. I always forget the first "r."
What makes Loyola different than other schools? I love that Loyola has a definite community. It's small enough where you will know people all over campus and you walk down the sidewalk and ten people say hello, but it's still big enough to where there is always someone new to meet. Everyone is friendly, creative and driven, so it's a special place to grow, chase your dreams and discover who you are.
Favorite place on Loyola's campus? Probably the front lawn where the Loyola sign is or standing on the stairs of Marquette Hall looking out onto the lawn, Audubon Park, the streetcar line and holy Name of Jesus Church. I have many special memories all over this campus from my years as as student and an employee, but that space is so beautiful. It's even better that my office looks out onto it!
