Bio

Akilah is a communications professional with a background spanning journalism, education, and strategic public relations. Before joining Loyola’s Office of Marketing and Communications, she worked in communications and media relations across four NCAA Division I Power 4 athletics departments—bringing with her a strong foundation in high-pressure storytelling, media strategy, and brand representation on a national stage.

She began her career as a high school language arts teacher and freelance journalist, experiences that sharpened her editorial voice and deepened her commitment to clarity, education, and human connection through writing. A lifelong advocate for the power of learning and language, she now brings that passion to higher education
