Subject line: Make Week One a Success
Sent: August 24, 2022
You did it! You’re officially a graduate student at Loyola University New Orleans. We’re so thrilled to have you as part of the LOYNO community. The work you do here will set the path for your life. You’ll make new friends, expand your understanding of the world, connect to the New Orleans community, and find what moves you. We are here to support you for every new obstacle and celebrate you for every new accomplishment. Here are a few tips and reminders to help you stay on track.
An important part of your grad school experience is what you do beyond the classroom. While you are at school to gain an education, we make our Jesuit value of Cura Personalis, or care for the whole person, a priority. Check out our Graduate Student Resources for more ways to get connected on campus, including student organizations, professional development opportunities, retreats, and more.
Meet Your Professors
Along with attending class, the ultimate key to succeeding academically is connecting with your professors. All of the professors here at Loyola have scheduled office hours set aside specifically so their students (i.e. you) can connect and ask questions about course material, assignments, advice, or simply have a conversation. Our faculty are experts in their fields and can serve as valuable resources, so please take advantage of them.
In addition to our knowledgeable faculty, you now have access to a whole team of support staff here to help you with any questions that may come up as you get adjusted. Below you’ll find answers to some of the more frequent questions we see from students around the start of the semester.
When's the last day to drop or add a class?
The Academic Calendar will be your friend as you get used to your new schedule. August 26 (this Friday) is the last day to add a new course to your schedule. Friday, September 2 is the last day to drop a course.
How do I log into my accounts?
If you’re having trouble accessing or setting up any of your Loyola accounts (like your Loyola email or the SSO portal), check out our step-by-step guide or contact the IT Help Desk by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org using your LOYNO email address.
How do I find a building on campus?
View our interactive map to explore buildings on campus and access 360-degree panoramas of the spaces and places that you’ll get to know while you’re here. You can also watch our virtual tour video to learn some fun facts and history behind the buildings on campus!
Where can I park?
If you plan to park on campus for the semester, you should purchase a virtual parking permit through Loyola Parking Services. If you choose not to get a parking permit, you may search for street parking around campus or pay for hourly parking using ParkMobile available in the West Road Garage and North Road. We recommend arriving early in case you can’t find a spot!
How can I find information about health policies and COVID-19?
Please continue to check your email and our FAQ website for updates regularly. You’ll find information about vaccinations, frequently asked questions, and more. We hope these resources help you stay safe and well-informed for the semester!
If you have any questions not answered here, please visit Havoc's Help Desk in the Lower Level of the Danna Student Center. Welcome to the Pack!
