Mathematics in Economics

Search: Field to search:

Purpose: This form will query a database of over 100 scholarly works on the subject of the misuse and misapplication of mathematics in economics. The majority of these works are from authors writing from the Austrian school of economic thought.

It is hoped that the criticisms of quoted in this database will lead the user to seek out the works cited for deeper study. Each criticism is quoted with the page number(s) on which it can be found in the work cited.

Usage: The basic search term(s) should be entered into the search box above. Select the database field in which to search using the drop-down menu.

Regardless of the field chosen to search, the script will search the criticisms quoted from the text. This is to increase the accuracy and relevancy of the results returned from the search. If you are interested in criticisms of statistics, for example, entering "statistics" into the search box and selecting "Work Title" from the drop-down menu will produce results with "statistics" found in the title, but also in the quoted textual criticisms. Similarly, if you are interested in Hayek's criticism of math, entering "Hayek" into the search box and selecting "Last Name" from the menu will produce not only results written by Hayek, but also works that reference him.
