On Tuesday, April 08, 2008, the Social Justice Scholars presented a

Human Trafficking Awareness Fair

on the campus of Loyola University New Orleans to help focus attention on modern-day slavery.

Students displayed poster boards and showed news videos and documentaries about recent news stories of human trafficking with a special focus on the United States.

The folks at Monroe Library created an impressive

display of books related to human trafficking.

Social Justice Scholars recruited others to help with the activities of the   fair, which included scavenger bingo to encourage visitors to visit all of the exhibits. Prizes were items made by former slaves - a beautiful pearl necklace, a soccer ball, and a backpack made from recycled rice packaging.

Everyone got a fair trade chocolate coin!

Representatives from two local organizations,The Metropolitan Center for Women and Childen and the New Orleans Workers' Center for Racial Justice, were on hand to share their stories about their roles. Not only are they helping those who are trafficked into the U.S., they are also working to bring more legislative attention to the problem.

We even had a "how do you wear your orange?" contest, since ORANGE is the color of freedom!

And the winners are...

And of course we had plenty of orange food and drink!
