Sigma Alpha Iota
Sigma Alpha Iota, the International Music Fraternity for Women, was organized in 1903, "to form chapters of music students and musicians who shall by their influence and their musical interest uphold the highest ideals of a music education; to raise the standard of productive musical work among the women students of colleges, conservatories and universities." As of August 2006, its membership includes 212 active college chapters and 121 alumnae chapters throughout the United States. It's purposes are:
TO FORM chapters of women college students and alumnae who have a sincere interest in music.
TO UPHOLD the highest standards of music.
TO FURTHER the development of music in America and throughout the world.
TO GIVE inspiration and encouragement to members.
TO ORGANIZE the cultural life of Sigma Alpha Iota members as a contributing factor to their educational growth.
TO SUPPORT the ideals and goals of the member's Alma Mater.
Our purposes, chorale, and symphony can all be found on the SAI National Website.
