BUTCH EKSTROM is an associate director of the Loyola Institute for Ministry, focusing on program development and student services, and is the coordinator of the Loyola Pastoral Life Center (LPLC) at Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a former full staff member of the national Center for Youth Ministry Development, and a widely known author and specialist in the fields of youth ministry, adult learning, and media culture. Prior to his years with the Center for Youth Ministry, Butch worked as an Associate Director of Religious Education in Archdiocese of New Orleans. In recent years, he has taught regularly in the gradute- level ministry education programs of Incarnate Word University, in San Antonio, at Loyola University New Orleans, at Fordham University, in New York, and at LaSalle University, in Philadelphia. Butch is author and editor of the books The New Concise Catholic Dictionary, Guides to Youth Ministry: Media and Culture, Guides to Youth Ministry: Retreats, Guides to Youth Ministry: Evangelization, and the ministry workbooks TeenMedia and Resource Manual for Youth Evangelization. During the second half of the 1990s, he was also a major contributor to the Benziger-Glencoe program Real Life -- a lifeskills-based catechetical series for junior high-age youth -- and a co-author and national consultant for Crossroad Publications' Crossroad Adult Christian Formation Program. A fifteen-year contributor to the journal Top Music Countdown, Butch's writing credits include almost 200 published articles, essays, and reviews. He lives with his wife, Lynn, one son, and two stepsons, in a blended stepfamily, in New Orleans.
