This 6-week course is for practising village blacksmiths. In the first section of the course they learn to make from scrap metal some simple tools they will use in blacksmithing, e.g., centre punches, tongs, flatters, and hammers. (They take these tools home after the course.) In the second part of the course they learn to make and repair parts for ox ploughs. Next they how to make simple hand tools for farmers, e.g., axes and hoes. They also learn how to manufacture a simple forge. Finally, after simple training in business practice such as costing jobs and billing customers, they make a field trip to visit past participants in the blacksmithing course to see what can be achieved.
