Agroforestry Course

Agroforestry is a farming system which integrates trees and/or shrubs with crops and/or animals to maintain or improve the yield on the farm.  Topics covered in this 5-day course include seed collection and handling, tree nursery management, planting and care of the trees in the field, use of trees for improving soil fertility (six different ways), for animal fodder, for human food (fruit and leaves), for managing pests on crops and animals, for living fences, windbreaks, and boundaries, and of course trees for timber and fuel.  The participants also come to appreciate how agroforestry can help mitigate the effects of HIV/AIDS on the farm family.
