Undergraduate Scholarships and Grants

Talbots Women's Scholarship

  • Five women will be each be awarded $10,000 scholarships and 50 women will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships. All applicants must be seeking an undergraduate degree from an accredited two-or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school.Only applicants seeking a bachelor's degree from a four-yearcollege or university are eligible to receive a $10,000 award.
  • Scholarship awards are based primarily on financial need and previous achievementsfor women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least 10 years ago.

Public Employees Roundtable Public Service Scholarship Program

  • Our Public Service scholarship program was started in 1986 in direct support of our mission statement that commits us to "encouraging an interest in public service careers." Our aim is to encourage the best and brightest college students to pursue careers in public service by offering merit-based scholarships. Since 1986, PER has given away more than $130,000 in thousand dollar scholarships. A 1992 survey of past winners showed that more than 90 percent had followed their dream and were working as public employees in some level of government.

David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships

  • National Security Education Program (NSEP) NSEP was designed to provide American undergraduates with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experience in countries and areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation. As a student of another culture and language you will begin to acquire the international competence you need to communicate effectively across borders, understand other perspectives and analyze increasingly fluid economic and political realities.

Thomas Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship

  • Applicants must have a cumulative gpa of 3.2 or higher (on a scale of 4.0). Students must be interested in pursuing international affairs careers by becoming Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State (http://www.state.gov/). They are looking for candidates who have performed well in their academic coursework and have participated in activities that attest to their leadership potential and involvement in communities. Women and members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.

Rotary Scholarship

  • AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS: Two scholarships are available for one year of study abroad. Each scholarship is worth up to $25,000 for the year 2003-2004.
  • UNIVERSITY TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship is available for a period between 3 to 6 months to teach in an underdeveloped country during the year 2003-2004. This scholarship is worth up to $12,500.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF)

  • The Hispanic Scholarship Fund is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education.
  • Their mission is to double the rate of Hispanics earning a college degree.
  • Since 1975, HSF has awarded more than 61,000 scholarships in excess of $115 million to Hispanic students from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands who have attended more than 1,700 colleges or universities.

The McMurry Fellowship Program

  • The McMurry Fellowship exists to provide students of color the opportunity to discover and explore the range of professional opportunities available at private independent schools.
  • Private independent schools award a finaicial stipend to students of color who demonstrate an interest in and determination to make the most of the opportunity.
  • The named McMurry fellow will be immersed in thier designated school's community for the enitre semester.

Graduate Scholarships and Grants

The Davies-Jackson Scholarship

  • The Davies-Jackson Scholarship is designed especially for students from families with modest economic backgrounds and who are among the very first in their families to have graduated from college.
  • The two year, full scholarship to St. John's College covers all tuition, fees, room and board during term time, living expenses during summer vacation, and travel to and from England.

The Thomas Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship

  • The Foundation is seeking well-motivated and academically excellent graduating seniors or recent graduates who represent all ethnic and social backgrounds to apply for this award. Applicants must have attained GPA's of 3.2 or higher (on a scale of 4.0) as undergraduates and must be interested in being Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State.
  • Applicants are expected to enroll in master's degree programs (such as public policy, international affairs, public administration, or academic fields such as business, economics, political science, sociology or foreign languages) in the fall.
  • Candidates should demonstrate academic strength in their coursework and participation in activities that highlight leadership potential and involvement in their communities. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service , and students with financial need are encouraged to apply.

The James Madison Scholarship

  • The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation seeks applicants committed to a career in teaching American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary level.
  • Fellows can attend any institution of higher education in the United States for either a Master of Arts degree (MA); a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT); or a Master of Education degree (MEd) with an emphasis on American history, government or political science.

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program for Graduate Study

  • The Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program provides financial assistance to students of superior ability, as demonstrated by their achievements and exceptional promise, to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) level in selected fields of the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
  • Fellowships can be offered to individuals who at the time of application have not yet completed their first year of any graduate study OR will be entering graduate school for the first time in the next academic year. (For the purposes of this program, 'graduate study' refers to any post-undergraduate study). Twenty percent of the fellowships shall be awarded in the social sciences, twenty percent in the arts, and sixty percent in the humanities. A minimum of sixty percent of the awards shall be made to students who have no graduate credits.

The George Mitchell Scholarship

  • The US-Ireland Alliance administers the George Mitchell Scholarship Program. Scholars are eligible to attend institutions of higher learning in Ireland, including the seven universities in the Republic of Ireland and the two universities in Northern Ireland for one academic year of graduate study.

Ford Foundation Fellowships for Minorities

  • To increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination, the Ford Foundation offers predoctoral fellowships to members of six minority groups whose underrepresentaion in the professoriat has been severe and long-standing. The fellowship program identifies individuals with demonstrated ability and provides them the opportunity to engage in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree. These successful scholars then inspire other students of color to pursue and academic career in teaching and research.

ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarships

  • The Scholarship Fund awards $5,000 of financial assistance annually to each scholarship recipient attending an ABA-accredited law school. Assuming the recipient achieves satisfactory performance in law school, an award made to an entering freshman may be renewed for two additional years, resulting in financial assistance totaling $15,000 during his or her time in law school. A scholarship committee, comprised of representatives from ABA entities, the national minority bar associations and at-large members, has been created to screen the applicants for the Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund.
