THIS WEEK'S HOT EIGHT:

1. Pineapple guava, a small oval shaped fruit from a tropical shrub. They are sweet and taste like a cross between a pineapple and a
kiwi. And yes, Larry is the big fashion star of Tuesday's Times-Picayune's Living section.

2. Black Bay oysters from Roko and Patsy. Oysters this time of year are medium size, salty. The best part is that they are not
washed and are still in their own natural juice. They also sell oyster juice for gumbo and washed shells for making your own Drago
style charbroiled oysters.

3. Tropical-De-Lite (a.k.a. Louisiana lettuce), a cross between chinese cabbage and mustard greens ($2.50 each and one of his
specialties) and vitamin packed curly kale from Jim Core ($1 each).

4. 6 inch garden mums ($2 each) and blooming butterfly plants (1 gallon pot for $4) from Mizell Farms.

5. Certified organic tender mustard greens ($1.25 per bunch), green beans ($1.50 per lb), and butternut squash ($1 per lb) all from
Owusu Bandele of Food for Thought farm.

6. Large sinnia boquets made up pf a great selection of celosia, gumphrena, marygoulds, and salvia from Shirley and Rene Randon
($8 each).

7. Halloween pumpkins of all sizes from the John, Jim and Kate Pumpkin Company as seen on the front cover of Monday's Living

GARDENING TIP FROM: Monica M. Lear, Ph.D., Assoc. County Agent, Orleans Parish of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension
Service of the LSU Agricultural Center.

For a green lawn all year, sow ryegrass seed mid-October through early November in south Louisiana. First, mow
existing lawns 1/2 inch shorter than usual before seeding. Sow about five pounds of seed per 1,000 square feet of lawn and
rake into the sod. On coarse St. Augustine, sow ten pounds per 1,000 square feet for complete coverage. Even distribution
of seed is essential for uniform appearance. Two or three weeks after planting the seed, apply 8 to 12 pounds of a complete
fertilizer per 1,000 square feet of area. If you are not overseeding, add only supplemental potassium if needed.
