You must
submit a detailed written proposal for your topic before I will approve your
independent study project for credit. This proposal must be submitted to me
in PDF format via email.
-
Once I
approve your topic, you must have the proposal approved by the Associate
Dean for Academic Affairs.
-
After you
commence work, I expect to receive email reports on your research and
writing progress at least every 14 days.
-
Your final
paper must be at least 15 pages long but no longer than 25 pages for each
hour academic credit sought. For example, a paper submitted for two hours of
academic credit must be at least 30 pages long, but no longer than 50 pages.
-
Your paper
must be printed in 12-point, Times New Roman type with 1-inch margins on all
sides.
-
Your paper
must be thoroughly footnoted. Endnotes are not permissible. All citations
contained in your footnotes must strictly comply with the latest edition of
The Bluebook.
-
Your paper
must have the following information on the cover page: (1) your name; (2)
the title of the paper; (3) the date of submission; (4) the hours of credit
sought; and, (4) the semester for which academic credit is sought.
-
Your paper
must be submitted simultaneously in both PDF and hard-copy formats.
-
As to the PDF
version, the file name and "re" line in the email should be your last name
and "Independent Study." For example, if your name is John Smith, the file
name and "re" line in the email you use to submit the paper should be "Smith
Independent Study."
-
As to the
hard-copy version, your paper must be printed on 8.5 x 11, white paper and
must be spiral or comb bound on the left margin. The hard-copy must have a white
cardstock cover with the necessary information photocopied thereon.
-
Your paper is
due in my electronic and hard-copy mailboxes on the first day of the
examination period for the semester in which credit is sought.
