We kept driving the back roads, slowly making our way east towards New Orleans. We
stopped for a while to explore Nottoway Plantation near the town of White Castle. Listed on the
National Register of Historic Places, Nottoway is one of the very few antebellum plantations
that survived the Civil War (or, as Brian says it is called, the War of Northern Agression,
and which he says his grandparents always referred to as "the recent unpleasantness"). It is
the largest remaining plantation home in existence.
