Faculty Technology Participants
(FTP)

Full time faculty members at Loyola and other surrounding institutions are encouraged to apply for NOCTIITE. All FTP agree to a year commitment which begins in January and concludes in December. The FTP will increase their familiarity, comfort, and skill with technologies in instruction. The FTP will also increase their knowledge and application of technology standards in instruction. The FTP will have assistance with the implementation of technology into their classroom instruction from a Student Technology Mentor (STM). The STM will work with the FTP for 6 hours a week on technology goals.

NOCTIITE encourages FTP to revise at least two course to include technology sometime during the year. During the first semester, the FTP begins reflecting on their courses in which they teach and tries to imagine areas where technology can enhance the class. NOCTIITE will offer e-communication and discussions over various technology topics that FTP are invited to attend if interested. NOCTIITE will also offer several mini workshops over particular applications of interest such as PowerPoint and Web pages.

In May, the FTP will attend a 5 day technology institute designed around their technological needs. FTP should have selected the two courses they plan to revise. The institute will provide many workshops and hands on learning sessions that will aide them in attaining their technology goals.

For the remaining summer and fall semester, an STM will be assigned to an FTP to help carry out the FTPs technology goals. The pair will work together 6 hours a week at their convenience. The FTP will be asked to hand in a copy of their syllabi for the courses they elected to revise and then after the revisions, they will be asked to turn in a copy of their syllabi so we can draw comparisons. This will display evidence of their technology growth.

Also during the summer and fall semester, the FTP is asked teach two lessons in a K-12 classroom on a topic of interest that includes technology. NOCTIITE wants to implement learning with technology in a school setting while using the teachers teaching teachers model.

The FTP can teach these lessons at the school of their choice and in the domain of their choice as well. For example, a psychology professor may elect to prepare a PowerPoint presentation on Peer Pressure for a high school class. Another example might be if a Math professor prepares a lesson on graphs and asks the students to survey classmates and use the computer to create a graph. There are no stipulations - just that you use technology in some fashion and teach the lesson twice in a K-12 classroom. Your STM will be available to help in any way.

The graduate assistant for Loyola is available to help arrange the K-12 classroom visit if need be. As an FTP, you will receive a stipend of $3000 for completion of all parts of the project. The stipend is paid out in 3 segments. If you are interested in participating as an FTP or would like more information, please contact Dr. Dermody, Co-Director at mdermody@loyno.edu or our graduate assistant for Loyola, Tricia Ruf at truf@loyno.edu
