Sutton Hoo
Sutton Hoo is the burial mound found in England that helped us get a picture of what Anglo-Saxon life was like. Bellow are sites that can help you learn more about this rich treasure trove.Email your comments to fred35@earthlink.net .
http://www.suttonhoo.org/ This site is the official site. It offers links to teacher's notes, a brief history, a brief interactive tour, and some realted links. Although this site is still under heavy construction, it does have some merit.
http://www.natmus.min.dk/nmf/nb/8/english/art6.htm This site gives an in-depth, one-page summary of the recreation of the ship by Centre for Maritime Archaeology for the Archäologisches Landesmuseum in Schleswig.
http://csis.pace.edu/grendel/projs4a/sutton.htm This is a nice site for getting a look at some of the stunning treasures of Sutton Hoo. This must be a student created website, so it can also be used to get ideas for how your students could design their own projects.
http://www.battle1066.com/sutton.html This site offers a gret deal of information about Sutton Hoo, and the designer did not spare any expense at creating a site with rich text and pictures. The site is broken down into six chapters, each complete with text, pictures, and maps. The design can be a little hard on the eyes, but the information is good.
http://www.history.bangor.ac.uk/shipspecial/SHLECT70.HTM This site offers more than you will ever want to know, but it is frustrating because it makes reference to slides, but you cannot view the slides!
http://www.gettysburg.edu/~s444637/suttonhoo.htm This site ontains wonderful pictures and information that is easy to understand. It is not extensive, but it is good.
http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/rialto/bibliog-msg.html Get ready to be overwhelmed by this extensive bibliography!
http://ishi.lib.berkeley.edu/history155/slides/SH/index.html This site has some nice pictures.
http://www.archaeology.co.uk/timeline/saxon/suttonhoo/suttonhoo.htm A nice place to start when learning about Sutton Hoo. Some pictures are included
