Student Writing Contests Scheduled for Spring 2007
The Women's Studies Committee will once again sponsor two annual writing contests this spring. Both contests are open to all students and faculty are encouraged to promote the contests in their classes. The competitions include financial awards.
One competition is the Women’s Studies Creative Writing Contest in which entries feature an experience or issue particularly relevant to women. An award of $100 will be made to the best work of creative writing produced by a Loyola student during the Spring, Summer and Fall 2005, and Spring 2006 semesters. Other prizes may also be awarded.
In the Women’s Studies Essay Contest, an award of $100 will be made to the best undergraduate essay written at Loyola during the Spring, Summer and Fall 2005, and Spring 2006 semesters on a topic concerning women’s issues.
Deadline for both contests is Tuesday, April 10, 2007.
The Women's Studies Creative Writing Contest 2005-2006
An award of $100 will be made to the best work of creative writing produced by a Loyola student during the Spring, Summer and Fall 2005 or Spring 2006 semesters. Other prizes may also be awarded. Entries should feature an experience or issue particularly relevant to women.
Submission deadline: Tuesday, April 10, 2007.
RULES AND ELIGIBILITY
1 The contest is open to all Loyola University undergraduates, full-time or part-time, enrolled during the 2006-2007 academic year.
2 Entries may be any work of creative writing, including poetry, fiction, or drama.
3 Entries must be the student's original work, published or unpublished.
4 Entries should reflect the experience and/or perspectives of women.
5 A student may submit only one entry for each annual contest.
6 The entry must be typed and double-spaced with appropriate margins.
7 Entries should be anonymous, with the student's name appearing only on a separate cover sheet, to be included with the submission. Forms are available in the Women's Resource Center [Mercy 103] and from Women's Studies Faculty.
8 Two clean copies of the entry (with any instructor's marks removed or obscured) as well as an electronic versionmust be submitted, together with the student's signed authentication, to the Women's Resource Center, no later than Tuesday, April 10, 2007.
9 Entries will be judged by faculty members appointed by the Women's Studies Committee.
10 No entries will be returned, and the decision of the judges will be final.
11 A first prize of $100 will be presented to the student whose entry is judged the best of those submitted. A second prize may also be noted. It is possible that no prizes will be awarded, depending on the judges' decision. The award will be made during the Honors Convocation of the College in which the student is enrolled.
The Nancy Fix Anderson Women's Studies Essay Contest 2006 - 2007
Two awards of $100 will be made to the best undergraduate essays written at Loyola University during the Spring, Summer and Fall 2005, and Spring 2006 semesters on a topic concerning women's issues.

RULES AND ELIGIBILITY
1 The contest is open to all Loyola University undergraduate students, full or part-time.
2 Entries should be non-fiction prose, such as research papers, position papers, reports.
3 Essays must have been written in a course for academic credit and validated by the instructor of that course to be authentic and original.
4 Essays written for courses held during the 2006 Spring, Summer, or Fall terms, or the current Spring 2007 term are eligible.
5 Topics can be in any academic discipline, but must concern an issue specific to women and their interests, history, or literature.
6 A student may submit only one entry for each annual contest.
7 Essays in the "short" category must be a minimum of 4 pages and a maximum of 10 pages. Essays in the "long" category, must not exceed twenty pages. Each essay can only be entered in one category.
8 Documentation must be in a standard form, such as MLA, APA, or Chicago Manual of Style.
9 The essay must be typed and double spaced with standard margins.
10 Entries should be anonymous, with the student's name appearing only on a separate cover sheet, to be included with the submission. Forms are available in the Women's Resource Center [Mercy 103] and from Women's Studies Faculty.
