Waiting List Procedures

Effective March 1, 2002

There are six class categories on the waiting list:
Infant, Toddler, One Year Old, Two Year Old, Three Year Old and Preschool

Children's names are listed according to the following affiliation:

  • 1st: Students, Faculty & Staff
A direct dependent of students, faculty, and staff is placed on the list on the date the parent/guardian applied. If the parent/guardian declines the position when an opening occurs, but wants to remain on the waiting list, the child's name is then placed at the end of the student, faculty, and staff section of the waiting list according to their refusal date.
    • Once a student becomes an alumnus, their child's name is placed in the alumni section of the waiting list by the day they applied.
  • 2nd: Sibling
If an alumnus' or community member's child is enrolled at the Center, then their sibling is placed after the direct dependents of student, faculty, and staff.
  • 3rd: Alumni
The child's name is placed on the list on the date the parent applied.
  • 4th: Community
The child's name is placed on the list on the date the parent applied.

If an opening becomes available, the Center gives priority to the children who are currently enrolled (i.e., the teacher in the class directly below the class level with the vacancy evaluates the developmental level of the oldest child in the class to determine if the child is ready to advance to the next level. If the child is ready to advance, he/she is then moved to the next class and the process begins again. Therefore, this process may leave a vacancy in younger classes depending upon how many children progress to the next level. If there is not a child in the younger class who is ready to progress, the opening will remain in that class level. After this process, depending upon the class with the vacancy, the opening will be made available to the first child on the waiting list who is the appropriate age for the class).

Children on the waiting list are eligible based on their age to move from one category to another (i.e., a child who appears on the infant waiting list who turns one year of age will then be moved to the next category listed according to the date the parent applied). The Center updates the list monthly.

The parents of the children on the waiting list are called every six months to verify their desire to remain active on the list and to update any information that is needed (i.e., affiliation, phone numbers, etc.). If a message is left on a phone recorder and there is no response, the Center calls a second time and gives the parent one week to respond. The child's name is then removed from the list if there is no response.

The Center does not award special privileges to anyone. Each person on the waiting list is given equal weight and treatment in the admission of their child to the Center based on their affiliation. The Center does not discriminate on the admission of children on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, national origin, handicapping conditions, or ancestry. The Center does not admit any child whose needs it cannot fully meet or whose behavior would endanger other children.
