Thinking Critically, Acting Justly:

Engaging the World Around You

Professor Bob Thomas and student Frazer O'Hara

Director of the School of Mass Communication and Loyola Chair in Environmental Communications Robert A. Thomas, Ph.D. (pictured here with student Frazer O'Hara), focuses his teaching and communications research on environmental education and how it can be effectively communicated to audiences.

Thomas is presently involved in research analysis of how environmental issues have been covered in Louisiana and nationally on Louisiana-based topics. He focuses on the study of interactions between the environmental and corporate communities, and he frequently visits with representatives from industries to discuss improvement of their environmental programs and to suggest how they may more effectively address the needs of social justice in their neighboring communities.

Like Frazer O'Hara, students in environmental communications go out into the field with Dr. Thomas to experience firsthand everything they learn in the classroom. They also have the option of working on a variety of environmental issues in Louisiana and such countries as Trinidad, Guatemala, and Belize.
