Info:
The Loyola University New Orleans community mourns the loss
of Dr. Peggy McCormack, Professor of English for thirty
years, who passed away at her home on the morning of
February 21 after a lengthy illness.

Dr. McCormack began her teaching career at her alma mater,
the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, after
receiving her Ph.D. at Rice University. She came to Loyola
in 1981 and taught courses on American film and literature
and British fiction. Dr. McCormack started the Writing
Across the Curriculum program at Loyola and has served as
chair of both the English department and the writing major.
Last year, she helped develop the new film and digital media
major. As a beloved instructor at Loyola, there were often
long waiting lists for her classes. Her publications
include a book on Henry James, examining gender and economic
exchange theory and an edited collection of essays on James
which focuses on gender studies.

There will be no funeral services, but the McCormack family
has requested a memorial service at Loyola. Plans are
underway to celebrate Dr. McCormack’s life, and details
will be announced once finalized.

God of love, welcome Dr. Peggy McCormack into your eternal
embrace of peace. May she live in the joy and wholeness of
your presence where pain and suffering are no more. May all
who mourn her passing, especially her husband, Steve, her
family, friends, colleagues and students know your comfort.
May the life and learning Dr. McCormack shared with the
Loyola community for so many years continue to be a blessing
for the world.
