Community Life and Covenant Groups

At the heart of most of our work in University Ministry is building strong communities of faith, whether those communities arise out of liturgies, retreats, service outreach, educational programs or other activities. However, we have listed on this page a number of unique communities or community building programs or community building programs in which you may be interested.

Christian Life Communities (CLC)

CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE CLC PAGE FOR MORE INFORMATION!

Each Christian Life Community (CLC) is a group of people (usually between 6 to 10 members) that meets regularly to pray, reflect, and discuss issues of life and faith.   Based in Ignatian spirituality, CLCs are missioned, discerning groups that help members find God in all things and discover their calling in life.   By living out the values of community, spirituality and service, CLCs are communities discerning for mission.   Although CLCs are firmly based in the Catholic expression of Christianity, groups are open to members of any faith tradition who seek a deeper relationship to God and value the integrity of all creation. Interested persons should contact Jessica Mueller at 865-3732 or email her at jmueller@loyno.edu.

University Ministry Program Communities

Awakening Community

The Awakening community is a student-led group that holds a retreat each semester for new members.  You can join the community, which meets weekly for prayer and camaraderie, by attending the retreat in the fall or spring.

Faith Formation Communities

A few generations ago, joining the Catholic Church or preparing for a sacrament involved being prepared for a test on church doctrine. The Church has come to recognize that people who make those deeper levels of commitment to the Church do so in the same way that people who have been born and raised in a faith tradition do-- through communities. The RCIA and Confirmation programs are designed to help create a community for you, where you can deepen your own understanding of your beliefs and walk with others on a similar journey. Contact Kurt Bindewald for more information at 865-3226, or check out our Sacraments / Faith Development page.

Hour of Power Group

Jesus did much of his ministry at table, so the Hour of Power weekly Praise and Worship group makes sure that after the spiritual nourishment of a weekly service led by a minister from the New Orleans community, they continue the faithsharing and fellowship over a wonderful homecooked meal. If your soul and your belly are hungry, contact George Gallien at 864-7921.

LUCAP

The LUCAP community is another student-led community that is very active in the city of New Orleans. Their efforts to support the community post-Katrina have imrpoved the lives of countless people. If you would like to know more about how you can be part of the outreach to the community, please contact Rick Yelton at 865-2141.

Zen Group

In previous years, we had a Zen Group, which was a community of people with an interest in eastern spirituality, particularly Buddhism. The group organized zen meditation in the zen-do on campus as well as other realted activities, such as Tai Chi, flower arranging, dancing and trips out to eat. We are looking for students who might be willing to restart the Zen Group.
Interested persons should contact George Gallien at 864-7921.

Covenant Groups

Any group on campus that serves the spiritual needs of the Loyola community is networked with University Ministry through the "covenant" process. Covenant groups are chartered organizations (or those seeking to be chartered) that have entered into an agreement with University Ministry to operate with an atmosphere of mutual support, honesty, integrity and respect. The following organizations have entered into covenant agreements with University Ministry.
