The Pre-college Incubation Experience for Majoring in Math and the Natural Sciences (Priemmans) was started in 2007 by Dr. Alvaro B. Alcazar to revive a tradition Fr. Louis Twomey started in 1949 of bringing high school and college students together to address issues of peace and social justice. This time, sophomore and junior high school students from minority family backgrounds come to Loyola to participate in creative math and science lessons and activities through mentoring relationships with students, faculty, and staff that encourage them to pursue these fields in college and in their adult lives. Additionally, these students receive training in conflict resolution so that they can embody and model non-violent ways of dealing with conflict in their respective schools, families, and communities. They are in the program until they graduate from high school.
