Hunger-Free Communities Act

Wed, 11/01/2006

The Hunger-Free Communities Act commits Congress to ending hunger in the United States and strengthens the efforts of local groups working to reduce hunger in their communities. In 2005, Bread for the World members built a strong cosponsor list for the Hunger-Free Communities Act, with a total number of cosponsors at 44 in the Senate (S.1120) and 165 in the House (H.R. 2717). Cosponsors from Louisiana include: Senator Mary Landrieu Congressmen Alexander and Baker. DID NOT COSPONOR: Contact Senator David Vitter and Congressmen Bobby Jindal, William Jefferson, Charlie Melancon, Jim McCrery and Charles Boustany and urge them to support the Hunger-Free Communities Act. ONE SPIRIT, ONE WILL, ZERO POVERTY Contact Senators Landrieu and Vitter and urge them to meet the U.S. commitments to hungry and poor people around the world. Tell them we need an additional 1% of our budget – a $5 billion increase annually – in poverty-focused development assistance to reduce hunger, poverty and disease.
