Social Policy and the Christian
RELS-V344-W01
Professor Ken Keulman
This course examines issues of public policy, ethics, and religion as they are play out in the U.S. constitutional system. We will also analyze current forms of ethics, which rethink the tradition of the common good in a way that addresses contemporary social divisions, both urban and global. Some of these issues include: the relationship between domestic and foreign policy, globalization, environmental issues, and bioethics policy. A section of the course will deal with some of the questions surrounding the landscape of public policy that has dramatically changed since Sept. 11, 2001, including: how the struggle against terrorism results in controversial policies revolving around issues such as domestic security, civil liberties, racial profiling, detaining of suspects, military tribunals.
