Intro to Western Art Music

MUGN-U268-W01
Professor Virginia Olander

Introduction to Western Art Music satisfies an arts requirement in the Common Curriculum.  This introductory course, sometimes called Music Appreciation, has no prerequisites.  Included are studies in music literacy (basic elements of music), the evolution of classical music from an historical perspective, and the great composers and their music.  Understanding an historical timeline and active listening to music is an important part of this course.  The student will complete this course with a foundation of knowledge and information about classical music.
