Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a learning program developed in the 1970s at the University of Missouri Kansas City.  It was designed to support classes that were historically difficult for students.  The program is in place at colleges and universities around the world, and now it is a fixture at Loyola.

SI places a student leader, who has previously and successfully completed the course, in the classroom. The SI Leader holds study sessions outside of classroom time, using innovative and fun pedagogical techniques to further the students’ engagement in the course material, with the goal of increasing individual student success.  This program is free for students in the SI classes, and studies show a positive correlation between attending SI sessions and course success.
