Welcome!
Welcome to the Loyola Community! We are glad you have chosen to attend the University.
Loyola University New Orleans was founded in 1912 by the Society of Jesus. The University takes its name from the sixteenth century Spanish (Basque) saint, Ignatius of Loyola. One of twenty-eight Jesuit colleges and universities across the country, Loyola is the largest Catholic university in the South, with an overall enrollment of approximately 5,500 students.
Many new and exciting opportunities await you over the next few years. During your college career you will be challenged not only academically, but in other areas as well. You will soon realize that Loyola is made up of a rich and diverse population. We have students, faculty, and staff who are from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, who are different ages and races, who are people with disabilities, and who are bi or tri-lingual! The diversity of our community is one of our greatest strengths. You see, no matter what your interests, you are Finding the Right Place at Loyola.
Over 80 percent of our students live off-campus; some students choose to live at home with their parents while others choose to live within walking distance of the University. These students usually rent rooms, apartments, or houses owned by local landlords. There are no apartment complexes (those owned and operated by companies) near the University. Thus, relocating can be tricky, especially if you want to just pack up and move to New Orleans without a place to live.
Given the unique housing situation, the Danna Center and Student Activities Office has put together this guide to make relocating easier. We think that you will find its contents useful during your apartment search.
