Uptown Shepherd's Center
The Uptown Shepherd's Center is a senior activity center open to those 60 years and older. Various activities, classes, exercise, hot lunch and transportation to and from the Center are available. This gives the clients an outlet for socialization, mental and physical stimulation and provides an enabling perspective to deal with aging and maintaining independence.
Service learners may participate in any of our activities at the center, assist with classes (computer, sewing, French or Spanish, Wii bowling), teach computer skills, assist staff in serving and preparing lunch, host special events at the Center, converse with and listen to seniors, play games with seniors, and assist with fundraisers. Students will gain an appreciation for senior interests and capabilities, new insights regarding challenges seniors face in our society, the realization that age doesn't define a person, and an exposure to gerontology as a career.
