Uptown Shepherd's Center

Uptown Shepherd's Center

The Uptown Shepherd's Center is a senior activity center open to those 60 years and older.  Various activities, classes, exercise, hot lunch and transportation to and from the Center are provided to our seniors.  This gives the clients an outlet for socialization, mental and physical stimulation and provides an enabling perspective to deal with aging and maintaining independence.

By serving at Uptown Shepherd's Center, Loyola students can gain exposure to the senior population and come to have better understanding of them.

Service learners may participate in any of our activities at the center, assist staff with activities with the seniors, socialize with the seniors, help seniors learning computer skills, help serve lunch, call Bingo, lead activities, play board games, lead Wii sports, etc.  Students will gain an appreciation for senior interests and capabilities, new insights regarding challenges seniors face in our society, the realization that age doesn't define a person.  They may also gain exposure to gerontology as a possible career path.
