Sojourner Truth Academy

Sojourner Truth Academy

Sojourner Truth Academy is a social justice charter high school in its second year that opened its doors in the 2008-2009 academic year to 100 ninth graders. It now has over 200 ninth and tenth graders and plans to gradually expand to 12th grade. Our mission is to "empower and equip students to become scholar-leaders using college preparation and social justice activism as vehicles for the rebirth and strengthening of their own community."

Loyola service learning students can help by serving as mentors and role models to our students, providing individual tutoring, working as classroom aides, or sponsoring after-school clubs such as dance, choir, drama, etc.  Students familiar with basic Spanish would be especially useful since our students must complete three years of Spanish language instruction.
