Harry Tompson Center

The Harry Tompson Center provides a calm and caring environment in which to serve the needs of the poor and homeless in the downtown New Orleans area.  We are a day center only, and we provide showers, laundry services, a telephone room, legal aid, medical care (including mental health), and prescription assistance.  Lunch is also provided daily at our site.

Loyola service learning students can help by keeping waiting lists for guests who wish to use the telephone room or the showers.  They can also help by sorting and unloading supplies in our storage area.  We are busiest in the mornings from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon.

By working at the Harry Tompson Center, students will be able to put names and faces to a part of the population that often gets overlooked by society. And in the process, they will learn the real causes behind the struggle of the homeless.
