ACCOUNTING

ACCT-B307-001 Accounting for Public Sector Entities Meyer, J.

In this course, students will work in teams to compile a manual of basic accounting policies and procedures for Christopher Homes, a nonprofit organization which manages properties for low-income seniors in the greater New Orleans area.

BIOLOGY

BIOL-A100-001 Biology Freshman Seminar Jordan, F.

Students will be required to commit one full day to biology-related work at the New Orleans Math and Science High School, the Audubon Institute, and other sites.

CHEMISTRY

CHEM-A496-001 Chemistry Seminar Birdwhistell, K.

Students will develop and present chemistry demonstrations at local schools.

COMMUNICATIONS

CMMN-A318-001 PR Cases & Campaigns Rogers, C.

The final and main project for CMMN 318 will require students to complete a research project for KIPP Schools which meets their public relations needs.

DRAMA

DRAM-A112-001 Voice and Movement Workshop II Preeshl, A.

The midterm examination for this course will require students to develop a performance of a traditional fairy tale in which they play all roles. For extra credit, students will perform their fairy tales for an audience of local elementary school students.

ENGLISH

ENGL-T122-005/6 Critical Reading and Writing Watts, T.

Students in this course will undertake fieldwork project at a service learning site or with a social group chosen in consultation with the professor. Students will immerse themselves within a subculture and write about the people, events and places associated with this subculture.

Community outreach at the Dibert Elementary School will complement course work on education and social inequalities in New Orleans, as well as the role of mass communication, local nonprofits and news organizations in shaping public policy.

SOCI-A497-001 Internship/Practicum Mennino, S.

SOCI305 students will be required to serve at either Urban Impact Leadership Academy or Boys Hope/Girls Hope. Service experiences will be integrated into course assignments. SOCI497 students may pursue a service learning practicum in a variety of local nonprofit agencies.
