Kedila Family Learning Services is a non-profit organization formed after Hurricane Katrina to address the lack of social services as the New Orleans population returned. The current national illiteracy crisis is especially evident in the New Orleans school system. We offer hope to those who have been left behind and help to close the gap of poverty.

ABOUT THE AGENCY
Café con Ingles teaches English to the adult immigrant members of St. Anthony of Padua Church and builds community at the parish. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes meet for approximately 2 hrs in the parish’s school cafeteria after the conclusion of the 9:00 AM Spanish-language mass at St. Anthony of Padua.  Before class begins, students and volunteer teachers enjoy coffee, pastries, and conversation.

ABOUT THE AGENCY
The Reading Room was created in 2007 to provide every second- and third- grade student at Lafayette Academy with one hour a week of one-on-one practice in reading fluency and comprehension skills. The tutors meet for one hour a week in the Reading Room with each of their two assigned students to work on fluency and comprehension. Tutors participate in shared reading aloud as well as assisting the students with book reports.

The mission of Elevate New Orleans is to elevate the life skills and abilities of inner-city student athletes through athletic, academic and social development. We help close the achievement gap by ensuring that inner-city youth have access to highly effective afterschool and summer developmental programs.

is an open-enrollment public charter school located in the Broadmoor neighborhood that serves over 600 students, pre-K through 8th grade.

Hagar's House is a sanctuary for women and children in New Orleans that provides a residential community, resource assistance, and a safe place to transition into permanent housing.  Hagar's House is a program of First Grace United Methodist Church and its associated nonprofit, First Grace Community Alliance.
