Carmelite NGO / Bread for the World
The New Orleans chapter of the national organization, Bread for the World, is housed at Loyola's Twomey Center for Peace through Justice. In close association with these efforts, the Carmelite sisters maintain a non-governmental organization (NGO) which engages in local, national and international activism and advocacy on human rights, environmental care, hunger, poverty and globalization, and many other issues. Human trafficking and organ trafficking have become new areas of emphasis for the Carmelite NGO for the upcoming year.
Loyola service learning students may produce valuable research on a wide variety of topics, especially human and/or organ trafficking in the U.S. and Louisiana. Students may also produce research on the connection between hunger and climate change. All of this research will be vital to our international advocacy efforts. Students can also help us with the design and produce of newsletters, brochures, and web-based materials to effectively disseminate this information.
