Boys Hope Girls Hope

Boys Hope Girls Hope

Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans helps academically capable and motivated children-in-need to meet their full potential and become men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college.  Over 200 children have found the structure, support, and guidance they need to overcome harmful circumstances beyond their control and reach their goals.  We now operate two homes in Mid-City, serving 16 youth from their admission to the program through college graduation.

Service learners will develop personal relationships with aspiring young men and women working to achieve their dream of college graduation.  They will tutor middle and high school students (ages 11 to 18) in algebra, geometry, chemistry, biology, English, Spanish, religion, social studies and other subjects as needed.  By serving with Boys Hope Girls Hope, students will become familiar with the many challenges inner-city kids face in obtaining a college-preparatory education and access to good colleges.  They will also learn effective tutoring skills and good study habits, as well as gaining experience working with young adults in an educational atmosphere.  Students wishing to serve at Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans should be able to function as "education ambassadors" and life-long learners who are committed to supporting and developing talented kids from the New Orleans area as they work to achieve academic success.
