Anna's Arts for Kids
Anna’s Arts for Kids provides a safe place for the most at-risk youth in New Orleans to experience learning and the arts. We aim to help children achieve increased academic success at school; a heightened sense of self-esteem and self-worth; a genuine appreciation for diversity; an affinity for community service; and a keen appreciation for creativity.
Loyola service learning students can work with our children on academic enrichment and tutoring. They can also help facilitate weekly 4-H meetings and arts & recreation activities, including but not limited to: ballet and African dance, etiquette, music, gymnastics, cheerleading, karate, cooking and baking, visual arts, drama, choir, and musical instrument instruction. Occasionally, the children go on field trips academic or artistic events. Service learning students may help with these events by special arrangement. Students who would like to volunteer on weekdays can work in the office helping program staff.
All service learning students who serve at Anna’s Arts for Kids must sign a contract agreeing to serve throughout the entire semester, even if this exceeds the number of service hours required for a course. At-risk children require, above all, consistency. For this reason, all volunteers must agree to stay with the program until the end of the semester.
