American Red Cross of Southeast Louisiana
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for & respond to emergencies. The Southeast Louisiana Chapter serves more than 1.2 million people throughout a 13-parish area.
Loyola service learning students can serve in multiple departments.
- The Community Outreach Department is in charge of providing disaster education materials and presentations throughout the community. They are in search of students who have an interest in practicing their public speaking skills and are willing to travel throughout the Greater New Orleans area to present at schools and senior centers. They are also in search of students who are interested in working with Project Safe Escape to connect with prospective and current clients.
- The Health and Safety Department helps prepare area residents to respond to emergencies both large and small. They are looking for students to help update 311 evacuation registrations as well as conduct Health and Safety Participant Surveys (prefer students with good verbal communication skills who like to talk on the phone). During Mardi Gras 2012 there will be four first aid stations open along Uptown and Mid City parade routes. Students serving with Health and Safety may be eligible to participate in this event if they have current Basic First Aid/CPR or higher.

Main office at 2640 Canal Street, but many service activities will take place at various locations throughout the greater New Orleans area.
