Residential Life Mission

The Office of Residential Life supports the academic mission of the University by providing an environment which promotes learning and the development of the whole person in the context of a Christian community. This is accomplished through the efforts of professional and student staffs by providing safe, clean, well maintained residence halls and various educational programming opportunities for students’ growth and development.

Goals

  1. Administer a comprehensive Residential Life Program with the focus on the individual student.
  2. Provide resident students with a quality living environment.
  3. Provide diverse opportunities for the growth and development for resident students.
  4. Provide need based educational programs.
  5. Provide interaction opportunities for faculty, staff, and resident students that foster relationships and promote teacher/student understanding.
  6. Administer the financial operation of the residence halls with the goals of price sensitivity and financial self sufficiency.
  7. Improve departmental effectiveness in meeting stated goals and objectives through the periodic evaluation of programs and services.

Philosophy of Residence Halls

Residence halls at Loyola University New Orleans exist to provide both a safe, comfortable, physical environment and services designed to facilitate the learning, growth, and personal development of each resident hall student. Residence hall living provides students with an opportunity to learn about persons from varied backgrounds and cultures and to share values and ideas. Living in residence halls helps develop living skills and a sense of responsibility to the community.

The Residential Life program at Loyola is designed to promote growth of maturity and responsibility among students while giving them the guidance and security offered in a structured environment.     The regulations and policies are established as a means to maximize the comfort, convenience and safety of the residents and to express expectations of behavior essential for congenial and productive coexistence.

Through student development programming in the halls, Residential Life aims to contribute to the personal development of the residents by providing out of class educational experiences which facilitate student growth in social, emotional, physical, spiritual, life planning, sexual, intellectual, and human awareness areas.

The primary objective of the residence halls is to provide an environment conducive to academic achievement and personal growth in which students feel comfortable and at home. All members of the Residential Life "TEAM," from desk assistants to the professional staff, work together to create a challenging, yet supportive environment that achieves this objective and enhances the educational process.
