Spring 2009 Closing Information

  • The residence halls close at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
  • (Residence halls close for Law students on May 14, 2009.)
  • Students desiring Summer housing must complete the Summer Housing Contract.
  • No student may stay in the residence hall after closing, with the exception of students who are participating in Commencement and those students who plan to live in the residence hall over the Summer. These student must complete a Late Checkout and Interim Housing Request.

How to Checkout Properly:

In order to avoid an Improper Checkout Fee, each resident must:

  1. Schedule a checkout time with their RA. Schedules will be posted on each RA door, and time slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you fail to sign up for a valid time, or are not ready to checkout at your scheduled time, you may be assessed an Improper Checkout Fee of $100.
  2. Pack ALL of your personal belongings and move them out of the room, into your vehicle or storage unit.
  3. Clean your room from top to bottom. Make sure to sweep and mop, wipe down the furniture and walls, and report any problems to your RA immediately (before checkout if at all possible). Make sure to bag all of your trash and dispose of it properly. RAs will have extra trashbags if needed.
  4. Clean out your campus mailbox.
  5. Turn in all of your keys to your RA. Key replacement charges apply for any keys not returned at checkout.
  6. Turn in your Mail Forwarding Request. Please make sure we have you correct Summer address so you can get your mail. If your Summer address is the same as your permanent address on file with the University, you do not have to complete a Mail Forwarding Request. Your mail will automatically be forwarded to that address.
  7. Show up on time! RAs will be VERY busy with multiple checkouts. If you are late, you may get skipped and assessed an Improper Checkout Fee.
  8. Sign your RCR.

Trash

Each RA will have trash bags available for residents to use. Bring all trash bags to the designated dumpsters, located outside of the residence halls. Ask an RA if you don't know where the closest dumpster is. The refuse rooms can not accommodate all of the trash, so they will be closed down during finals week and closing. Trash left in non-designated areas will be subject to fines for the area in which it is found.

Recycling

Loyola will be collecting clothing, non-perishable foods, furniture, and other unwanted items that are clean and in good working order. These items will be distributed to deserving members of the Loyola community and to local non-profits for distribution. Please do not throw away items if someone else could benefit from them! There will be a collection truck parked in the Mercy Lot during Finals week to collect donations. Examples of items we will collect include: Hangers, clothing, small appliances, school supplies, canned foods, utensils/flatware, lamps, books, and furniture.

Interim Housing

Students who have applied for and been assigned summer housing and wish to stay on campus between Spring closing and Summer opening (a period of 2 weeks) may apply for Interim Housing. Interim housing costs $25 per day for a double occupancy room, in addition to regular Summer Housing costs. Students who wish to request interim housing must complete the Late Checkout and Interim Housing Request Form. Approved students may be required to move from their current room.

MicroChillers

All MicroChillers this year should be left in the resident’s room. Leave the MicroChiller in your room clean, dry, unplugged, and with all doors open. These units will be collected and removed after Commencement by the University’s contractor. Your Ra will check the condition of your MicroChiller at checkout. Failure to clean and/or defrost your MicroChiller will result in additional fees.

Safety Reminder

Move-out week is a time of high theft on most college campuses, due largely to book buy-back and people leaving cars and rooms unlocked. Please always lock your room and vehicle, and do not leave textbooks or other valuables unattended.
