Welcome
Welcome to the home of the Common Curriculum Review Task Force. The members of the task force have been charged with conducting a comprehensive review of Loyola’s common curriculum and proposing necessary changes. This is, however, a Loyola-wide endeavor, and the material here is to allow any member of the community who wishes to give input into the process (or just keep track!) to do so. As we move through the process of review, we will continue to post our progress, both through the minutes and other documents, as well as requesting your participation.
Loyola’s Identity
The main guidelines for the task force come from the core expressions of the university’s identity as found in the statements on mission, purpose, character and commitment, and goals. Using these as a launching point, we have generated a list of qualities that Loyola students should have, and that the common curriculum should help instill.
The Common Curriculum
To help the community understand and participate in our task, there is a short History of the Common Curriculum from its inception in 1972, as well as reflections on the goals of the common curriculum and Loyola education as a whole. The task force has also availed itself of reflections on general and liberal education from a variety of education experts and other sources.
The Loyola Community
Check back often to see what is happening, and please use the comments section (coming soon!) to ask questions or offer your input on the process. Also, stay tuned for a survey we are designing to help you shape our common curriculum in the most effective way possible.
