American Myth & Drama

Do you like to read and watch videos?  Join the fun by exploring the “American Myth”.

American Myth and Drama – a common curriculum course examines the “American Myth” portrayed by playwrights of various cultures and time periods. Students will examine the “American Myth” as portrayed in drama as well as asking what is the “American Myth”?  Has our perception of the American Myth changed?  Does interpretation of the American Myth change from culture to culture from time to time?  What was the motivation of the playwright to explore this subject?

Objectives of the class are to understand why reading a play is different than reading a novel.  What is the difference between reading a play and seeing a production?  How the audience/reader participates in drama through criticism.  Prior theatre experience is not required.

BONUS:  NO TEXTBOOK IS REQUIRED!!!
