2008 Annual Fire Safety Report

Overview:

The Higher Education Opportunity Act (Public Law 110-315) became law in August 2008. It requires all United States academic institutions to produce an annual fire safety report outlining fire safety practices, standards, and all fire-related on-campus statistics. The following public disclosure report details all information required by this law as it relates to Loyola University New Orleans.

General Statement of University Owned/Controlled Student Housing

The fire alarm systems in all four (4) residence halls have been upgraded within the last year to include fully addressable systems wherein each point is addressable as opposed to a zoned system. The fire alarm system is fully integrated with the sprinkler system, elevator control system and air handling unit controllers. The upgraded network system annunciates all alarms back to the University Police office, which will take the appropriate responsive action whenever an alarm is activated. This office is continually staffed on a 24/7 basis. Each of the four (4) residence halls additionally has a building sprinkler system that is served by jockey and fire pump equipment, which is tied into a standby electrical generator that automatically activates whenever normal electrical power is interrupted.
