October 2006: Stella Von Meer makes a poster presentation at the American Chemical Society Regional Meeting in Houston

Loyola physics undergraduate Stella Von Meer presented a poster entitled “Comparative study of thermally and microwave-induced growth of Saccharomyces in aqueous media”, co-authors Karen George, Konrad Kabza, Armin Kargol. The 62nd American Chemical Society Southwest Regional Meeting was held in Houston Texas.

August 2005: Marc Cenac speaks at LSC meeting in Hanford, WA

Loyola undergraduate Marc Cenac A'07 gave a presentation at the 21st meeting of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration in Hanford, WA. The talk (LIGO graphical presentation G050396-00-Z; click the link for PDF slides) was entitled "Status of StochMon, a DMT monitor of stochastic sensitivity". In it, Marc described the work he's done over the last year at Loyola, which began last summer at the LIGO Livingston Observatory as part of Caltech's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program. Marc is continuing his work during the school year as a research assistant working with Drs. Whelan and McHugh in Loyola's Gravitational Waves Research Group.

Scholarship Awards

The Rev. Ransom Marlow, S. J. Physics Award: Melissa Minneci
The Otto F. Briede Fellowships in Physics: Ryan J. Ramano
This scholarship was created through a gift from Otto F. Briede, Jr., to establish the scholarship in memory of his father. The scholarship is awarded to a worthy student majoring in physics.
The Benedetto-Maring Award in Physics: Marc J. Cenac
This scholarship was established in memory of Fr. Benedetto and Fr. Maring, through gifts from the Department of Physics and former colleages. Both Jesuits taught physics at Loyola for many years, and this scholarship will be awarded to outstanding physics students.
