Advertising student, SGA president receive honors
Christina Ung, a senior communications student majoring in
advertising in the College of Arts and Sciences, is a finalist for
the American Advertising Federation's Most Promising Minority Students of 2005.
Ung is a native of Houston, Texas.
The program connects the advertising industry's recruiters with diverse and talented graduating advertising seniors. The number of students chosen to participate in the program has increased by 60 percent in the last two years, and it is currently the advertising industry's largest diversity hiring program. This year's 40 finalists representing 33 colleges and universities around the country will gather in New York City, February 8 10, where they will be honred at a luncheon. The students will also be given opportunities to learn more about the industry, network with advertising professionals, and possibly set up job interviews.
Martina Mills, student government association president and
communications major, received the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Service
Award on January 19 during an event commemorating the 19th annual Martin Luther
King Week for Peace. Mills received the award for her volunteer involvement
in Habitat for Humanity, the Uptown Shepard Center, and East Bayou Baptist
Church in Lafayette. Kweisi Mfume, who recently stepped down as president and
CEO of the NAACP, was the keynote speaker at the event, held at Xavier University.
Dillard, Loyola, Tulane, and Xavier universities join efforts every year to
honor King's life and legacy.
