The Rev. James C. Carter, S.J., honored with plaque dedication
On Friday, November 19, University President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., and Loyola community members and friends joined for the dedication of a plaque honoring the Rev. James C. Carter, S.J. The plaque hangs outside the 150,000-square-foot J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library on Loyola's main campus. Carter was instrumental in securing the initial $7.5 million from the late J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe to support the construction of the library.
Carter is the longest tenured president of the university, having led Loyola from 1974 to 1995. He also served as chancellor of the university from 1995 to 2001. He is a recognized theologian, nuclear physicist, and civic leader.
